Letter to International Olympic Committee
Over
38 years ago, the world watched as 11 Israeli athletes, coaches and
referees at the Munich Olympics in 1972, were held hostage and
ultimately murdered. This incident was one of the very first acts of
terrorism on a world stage.
Decades have passed, as the families of these 11 men, tried everything
in their power to secure one minute of silence, from the International
Olympic Committee (IOC), at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
Our Board of Directors has unanimously voted to dedicate our JCC Maccabi
Games in August 2012, to the
Munich 11.
We stand with them to accomplish this goal by obtaining a minute of
silence at the 2012 London Olympics, the 40th anniversary of Munich and
every Olympic Games thereafter.
Let us heal this wound together and set an example to generations that
will come after us.
